I did not think that this would work, my best friend showed me this website, and it does! I get my most wanted eBook
I found out about Playster in the New York times and I'm very happy about it: “One of the newest contenders in the crowded field, a company based in Montreal called Playster, offers music, games, TV shows, movies and e-books through its service. Playster recently struck a deal with HarperCollins to include 14,000 backlist books in its service.”
My friends are so mad that they do not know how I have all the high quality ebook which they do not!
I stumbled upon Playster 2 months ago. I've upgraded to a premium membership already. The platform now carries audiobooks from: Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, HarperCollins UK, Recorded Books, Tantor, and Highbridge. HarperCollins US titles are already in the library. Great service.

The Woman Who Came Back
By Tom S.
Her name is Mia, a 25-year-old art teacher from a well-to-do Chicago family. She's been abducted by a man she met in a bar and held captive at a remote cabin in another state. Now she's returned--but the woman who comes back is not at all like the woman who vanished. She calls herself Chloe now, and she apparently doesn't remember much of her ordeal or of her life before it. Amnesia, the doctors call it. Her socialite mother, a concerned police detective assigned to the case, and the abductor himself take turns filling in the blanks of Mia/Chloe's story. And it's quite a story...
Mary Kubica's first novel is unusually constructed: several voices, all in the present tense, jumping back ("Before") and forth ("After") in time. This may sound complicated, but it isn't. For a first novel, THE GOOD GIRL is amazingly polished and professional. All the characters spring to life as they speak, and I really began to care about them--especially the young woman at the center of the plot.
I've already seen early reviews comparing this to GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn and STILL MISSING by Chevy Stevens, and I think it's every bit as good as both of them. If you like low-key psychological suspense stories about troubled families and the secrets they hide, you really should try this. Highly recommended.

Having read many thrillers recently by Ruth Rendell and Patricia Highsmith, I wanted to try a recent best-seller. While Ms. K's book has much going for it, it can't come close to the work of the masters of thrillers. Like many books today, it's vastly overwritten. Too many words for its action. Mostly though I found the characters cliched. Like characters in a network TV show, they fit securely into a slot we've seen too many times before. The cold, arrogant father. The beautiful weak mother. The arrogant lawyer sister. The gruff cop who doesn't like animals and finally melts. (By the way, women editors used to read men's work and male editors women's work to make sure that men and women characters spoke and thought like men and women. Not anymore it seems. The last time a middle-aged cop sat opposite a beautiful woman and called her "breathtaking" might have ben in the 17th Century. If ever.) The change of the villain and his captive is interesting but superficial. I guess this is what they call a "beach read" because nothing surprise me. It was easy. Compare it to a Ruth Rendell book whose characters are far more complex, largely flawed and unlikeable and yet completely riveting. The same goes for Highsmith. I hope that Ms. K's early success doesn't limit how she might improve. My fear is that now that she's found a successful voice, she'll milk it.

Bored by the bulk of the book; hated the ending
I bought this book because it was described as similar to "Gone Girl", which I really enjoyed. This was disappointing for several reasons. The story is written from the points of view of 3 characters - the kidnapping victim's mother, the detective investigating the kidnapping, and the kidnapper. None of these voices is very satisfactory; I didn't get a sense of who any of them were, and each one brought up story lines that were never resolved. SPOILER ALERT: For example, the detective clearly wants to become romantically involved with the mother, but this plot line is left dangling without resolution. The story revolves around what a complete jerk the victim's father is, but he is just a one-dimensional character who is never fleshed out. We never have much sense of who the victim was before she was kidnapped. And then, the twisty ending just renders the whole story ridiculous and unbelievable. As someone else said, I didn't dislike the book while I was reading it, but the more I reflected on it after I finished, the worse it seemed. Read "Gone Girl" instead.
