I did not think that this would work, my best friend showed me this website, and it does! I get my most wanted eBook
I found out about Playster in the New York times and I'm very happy about it: “One of the newest contenders in the crowded field, a company based in Montreal called Playster, offers music, games, TV shows, movies and e-books through its service. Playster recently struck a deal with HarperCollins to include 14,000 backlist books in its service.”
My friends are so mad that they do not know how I have all the high quality ebook which they do not!
I stumbled upon Playster 2 months ago. I've upgraded to a premium membership already. The platform now carries audiobooks from: Simon & Schuster, Macmillan, HarperCollins UK, Recorded Books, Tantor, and Highbridge. HarperCollins US titles are already in the library. Great service.

I hated Gone Girl
By Debbie McBee
Thankfully I ignored the comparisons. The Good Girl definitely has a vibe similar to Gone Girl. Missing girl. Multiple narratives. The difference is I hated all the Gone Girl characters. (except perhaps the sister) I hated them and waited for every one of their lies and manipulations to be punished. The ending fell sadly short. I was left with no satisfaction. No, or little, retribution.
The Good Girl is the polar opposite. I really liked the characters. Or most of them. I felt their struggles were real. Their interactions were real. The bad guys were developed enough to identify and dislike them, but the story is not about the bad guys. It's about surviving. Surviving trauma the began before and ended well after a kidnapping.
p.s. the ending is thoroughly satisfying

What's good: The love story (it's not that big of a spoiler, it's pretty clear from the beginning of the book what's going to happen), is the most interesting part of this book. It stayed with me for several days after, and the outcome of the love story haunted me. It's the best part of this book and the author should be commended. I was genuinely compelled by the way she developed the story, and I felt something real for both Owen and Chloe. Also, I truly enjoyed the detective's voice, which was unique, humorous, and consistent throughout.
We never hear from the "Good Girl" herself until the very end, so when the "twist" (which isn't a twist at all, if you can read between the lines) is revealed by her, it's a confusing let down. Since we've never heard her voice up until this point having the twist revealed in her voice means nothing, because we literally don't know this character from her point of view, at all.
Also, the idiotic racism in this book made my skin crawl. There are multiple examples of this kind of ignorant insensitivity. But the worst is the author's description of Dalmar at the end, were she compares him to not one BUT TWO different black animals. It reads like it was written by an ignorant third grader. I can't believe that line got past an editor. Plus it made no sense coming from the character who said it because, she supposedly, was an open minded woman who chose to work with minority students from low income households. Sorry but none of this lines up.

The Woman Who Came Back
By Tom S.
Her name is Mia, a 25-year-old art teacher from a well-to-do Chicago family. She's been abducted by a man she met in a bar and held captive at a remote cabin in another state. Now she's returned--but the woman who comes back is not at all like the woman who vanished. She calls herself Chloe now, and she apparently doesn't remember much of her ordeal or of her life before it. Amnesia, the doctors call it. Her socialite mother, a concerned police detective assigned to the case, and the abductor himself take turns filling in the blanks of Mia/Chloe's story. And it's quite a story...
Mary Kubica's first novel is unusually constructed: several voices, all in the present tense, jumping back ("Before") and forth ("After") in time. This may sound complicated, but it isn't. For a first novel, THE GOOD GIRL is amazingly polished and professional. All the characters spring to life as they speak, and I really began to care about them--especially the young woman at the center of the plot.
I've already seen early reviews comparing this to GONE GIRL by Gillian Flynn and STILL MISSING by Chevy Stevens, and I think it's every bit as good as both of them. If you like low-key psychological suspense stories about troubled families and the secrets they hide, you really should try this. Highly recommended.
